How MCP for Trade Server Helps Automate Trading Operations

Brokerage operations do not always fit neatly into predefined screens and reports. A desk may need exposure grouped around its own risk model, two figures viewed side by side, or the same check applied across a set of accounts.

These are straightforward operational questions, but answering them can still require a development request, a manual export, or another specialist tool. The gap is not between the brokerage and its data. It is between the question being asked and the route required to answer it.

How Brokers Can Use MCP for Trade Server

MCP is an open standard that gives AI assistants a consistent way to connect with external software, data and actions. MCP for Trade Server applies that connection to the Trade Server backend without requiring the brokerage to build a separate custom AI integration.

  1. Connect a compatible assistant. The brokerage connects an AI assistant or agent of its choice using existing Trade Server credentials.
  2. Use the established permission model. The connected credentials determine the available scope, from account-specific access to authorised broker-wide functions. MCP does not expand what the user is already permitted to access.
  3. Ask or instruct in natural language. The user requests authorised information or initiates a permitted action without moving through a predefined sequence of screens.
  4. Receive current data or a proposed action. The assistant reads current Trade Server data at the time of the request. For actions affecting positions or funds, it returns a preview without executing the instruction.
  5. Confirm the action. The action proceeds only after a person confirms it and retains the same system record as the equivalent action performed through the Trade Server interface.

Where It Fits Across Brokerage Teams

Risk. A risk manager can ask for total exposure on EUR/USD, or for every account in negative equity, rather than request a separate report and wait. The judgement of what to do with the information remains with the risk manager.

Dealing. The connection is not limited to reading data. Within the permissions attached to the connected credentials, a dealer can initiate a hedge or close a position by instruction rather than navigating to it manually.

Operations. Account lookups, cash transfers and group changes can be completed in the same way. One instruction can cover a defined set of accounts, allowing routine operational work to scale more efficiently across larger books.

Practical Brokerage Workflows

Ad hoc client reporting. A dealer or risk manager can ask, “Show me the most profitable clients for today,” using authorised Trade Server data rather than building a separate report or extracting the information through a Manager API.

Cross-reference accounts. A request such as, “Show me every account with a balance above a chosen threshold and show which group and book each account belongs to,” can bring together information that would otherwise need to be extracted and compared manually.

Investigate a client trading query. A dealing team can pass a client complaint such as, “The client says they were in profit but closed the position at a loss. Investigate the trade and explain what happened.” MCP can use the relevant Trade Server journal and trading information to support the investigation without the dealer manually locating each part of the record.

Build a tailored risk view. Where the required information already exists inside Trade Server, brokers can use MCP to create risk views or dashboards around their own requirements rather than relying only on predefined reporting screens.

Extend MCP-Enabled Access to Trading Clients

Brokers can also extend MCP-enabled access to their trading clients, giving them a simpler way to connect API-driven tools, develop AI-powered trading strategies, and interact with the broker's Trade Server infrastructure. The broker defines the access and permissions available to each client.

Control

Three controls determine how the capability is used, and all three remain with the broker.

The first sits on any action that affects positions or funds. Those actions follow a two-step confirmation process: the assistant returns a preview of the proposed action without executing it, and the action proceeds only after a person confirms it. An instruction on its own does not execute.

The second is access. An assistant reaches what the credentials behind it already reach, and nothing further. The third is the record. An action taken through MCP retains the same system record as the equivalent action performed through the Trade Server interface.

Deployment stays with the broker as well. MCP for Trade Server can run on the brokerage's own infrastructure, and the broker chooses which compatible assistant connects to it.

A brokerage already owns the data its platform produces. MCP for Trade Server gives dealing, risk, and operations a direct route from that data to the decisions made on it, without replacing systems that already work.
